We Believe in Quality
At Tis Well Farm, we believe in providing a safe, natural, consistent and delicious product to our customers. We believe customers should know exactly what they are choosing, and we’re proud to share with you some important facts about our beef:
- Purebred Black and Red Angus!
- Raised by us from birth to harvest!
- Calves graze on pasture and nurse from their mothers for approximately 8 months. After they are weaned, they are transitioned onto a diet consisting primarily of hay (in the winter), pasture (spring/summer) and corn to supplement their energy needs. All of their corn is grown less than 1 mile from our farm by our neighbor and the hay is made right here on our farm!
- The calves will be 17-18 months of age at the time of harvest and should weight approximately 1,100 – 1,200 pounds.
What should you expect?
We’re selling ‘cow shares’ or steers/heifers by the Eighth, Quarter, Half or Whole. Technically you’re buying a portion of the animal on the hoof, while it is still alive, and before it is processed.
Please note the pricing is based strictly on an estimation of the hanging weight of each animal. We charge $5.00/pound hanging weight. The particular weight will vary from animal to animal. Beef will be vacuum-packaged and frozen when you pick it up.
Beef Eighth Estimation: We estimate about 50-55 pounds of packaged beef per eighth, valued at about $375-400. This includes everything from ground beef to roasts to steaks.
Beef Quarter Estimation: We estimate about 100-110 pounds of packaged beef per quarter, valued at about $750-800. This includes everything from ground beef to roasts to steaks.
Beef Half Estimation: We estimate about 200-220 pounds of packaged beef per quarter, valued at about $1,500-1,600. This includes everything from ground beef to roasts to steaks.
One thing you will want to plan for if you would like to commit to a beef eighth, quarter or half is where you will store this quantity of beef. We suggest looking into the purchase of a 5-7 c.u deep freezer!
NOTE: If you would like to purchase our beef in a bulk quantity less than an eighth, quarter or half, we suggest you grab another local beef-loving family and ask them to go in on an eighth with you!
While supplies last, we are also selling beef by the cut if you are looking for really small amounts!
A $200 non-refundable deposit will be required to secure your order for a beef eighth, quarter or half. This will be deducted from your final balance. As soon as we receive your order, we will email an electronic invoice. When your order is ready this fall, we will email you with the balance due. Payment must be made in full when you pick-up the beef at the farm. (Electronic payment, on-site credit card or check.)
What Cuts of Beef Should I Expect in My Order?
You should expect a mix of steaks, roasts, ground beef and stew meat. Roughly speaking, 1/2 of your meat will be ground and/or stew, 1/4 will be roasts (chuck, shoulder, rump, sirloin tip etc.) and 1/4 will be steaks (sirloin, ribeye, T-bone, filet mignon, etc.). In addition to your packaged beef, you have the option of requesting your portion of the soup bones, dog bones, other (oxtail, kidney, tongue, heart, tallow) at no additional cost.
